Both are common single-wall box specifications and are generally considered comparable in everyday shipping performance, though ECT is now the industry-preferred standard.

ECT stands for Edge Crush Test, a performance standard that measures how much top-to-bottom stacking force a corrugated box wall can resist before collapsing. It is expressed in lbs per inch. Higher ECT ratings indicate greater stacking strength. ECT has become the preferred rating for corrugated boxes because it directly reflects real-world pallet stacking performance in shipping and warehousing.

32 ECT boxes are standard single-wall corrugated cartons suited for lightweight to moderate-weight parcel and e-commerce shipments. 48 ECT boxes offer significantly higher stacking strength, typically achieved with heavier single-wall or double-wall construction, and are used for heavier products or high-stack palletized freight. Choose 48 ECT when product weight, pallet height, or transit stress exceeds what a standard 32 ECT box can reliably handle.
