For heavy or sharp-cornered loads, 80 ga to 115 ga is typically recommended for hand wrapping, with blown film preferred for maximum puncture resistance. For machine wrapping, 70 ga to 90 ga cast or blown film provides strong load containment. Equivalent gauge films using nano-layer resins can deliver 80 ga performance at lighter weights.

Hand stretch film is available in standard widths of 12 in, 15 in, 18 in, and 20 in. Roll lengths typically range from 500 ft to 1,500 ft, with 1,000 ft being the most common. The 18 in and 20 in widths are the most widely used for standard pallet wrapping in warehouse and distribution environments.
